Basic functions of UPS uninterruptible power supply
Voltage stability – The voltage of a city’s power supply is easily affected by the quality of the power transmission line. Users closer to the substation have a higher voltage of about 130-120V, while users farther away have a lower voltage of about 100-90V. If the voltage is too high or too low, it can shorten the life of the user’s equipment, and in severe cases, it can burn out the equipment. The use of online UPS can provide a stable voltage power supply, with voltage fluctuations of less than 2V, which can extend equipment life and protect equipment.
Power outage protection – In the event of a momentary power outage, the UPS uninterruptible power supply immediately converts the battery’s DC power to AC power to continue supplying power.
High and low voltage protection – When the mains voltage is too high or too low, the built-in voltage regulator (AVR) of the UPS will make appropriate adjustments to keep the mains voltage within the usable range. If the voltage is too low or too high and exceeds the usable range, the UPS will convert the battery DC power to AC power to continue supplying power, in order to protect user equipment.
Frequency Stability – The frequency of a commercial power supply is divided into two types: 50Hz/60Hz. The so-called frequency refers to the period of change every second, with 50Hz being 50 cycles per second. The frequency of a commercial power supply is 60Hz, while in mainland China it is 50Hz. The sudden change in the power consumption of the client during the operation of the generator will cause a fluctuation in the speed, resulting in an unstable frequency of the converted power. The power converted by the UPS uninterruptible power supply can provide a stable frequency.
Waveform distortion processing – Due to the transmission of electricity to the client through transmission and distribution lines, the use of various machinery and equipment often causes distortion of the mains voltage waveform. Because waveform distortion will generate harmonics * equipment and cause the temperature of power system transformers to rise, the distortion rate is generally required to be less than 5%, and the general UPS design distortion rate is less than 3%.
Monitoring power supply – With the intelligent communication interface and monitoring software of UPS, it can record the voltage, frequency, power outage time, and frequency of the mains power supply to achieve power supply monitoring, and can arrange the UPS uninterruptible power supply on/off schedule to save energy.
Suppressing common mode noise – Common mode noise is generated between the live/neutral wire and the ground wire.
Suppressing transverse mode noise – transverse mode noise is generated between the live and neutral wires.
Surge protection – Generally, UPS uninterruptible power supplies are equipped with surge absorbers or tip discharge designs to absorb surges and protect user equipment.
Instantaneous response protection – When the mains power is supplied, it may sometimes cause voltage to bulge or sag or instantaneous voltage drop. The use of online UPS can provide stable voltage, making voltage fluctuations less than 2V, which can extend equipment life and protect equipment.
