The functions of UPS uninterruptible power supply

  1. Voltage stability
The voltage of the power supply is easily affected by the quality of the power transmission line. Users who are closer to the substation have a higher voltage, while those who are farther away have a lower voltage of about 100-90V. If the voltage is too high or too low, it can shorten the life of the user’s equipment, and in severe cases, it can burn out the equipment. The use of an online UPS uninterruptible power supply can provide a stable voltage power supply, with voltage fluctuations of less than 2V, which can extend equipment life and protect equipment.
  2. Power outage protection
When there is an instant power outage, the UPS uninterruptible power supply immediately converts the battery’s DC power into AC power to continue supplying power.
  3. High and low voltage protection
When the mains voltage is too high or too low, the built-in voltage regulator (AVR) of the UPS uninterruptible power supply will make appropriate adjustments to keep the mains voltage within the usable range. If the voltage is too low or too high and exceeds the usable range, the UPS will convert the battery DC power to AC power to continue supplying power, in order to protect user equipment.
  4. Frequency stability
The mains frequency is divided into two types: 50Hz/60Hz. The so-called frequency refers to the period of change every second. 50Hz means 50 cycles per second. The frequency of Taiwan’s mains is 60Hz, while that of mainland China is 50Hz. The sudden change in the power consumption of the client during the operation of the generator will cause a fluctuation in the speed, resulting in an unstable frequency of the converted power. The power converted by the UPS uninterruptible power supply can provide a stable frequency.
  5. Waveform distortion processing
Due to the transmission of electricity to customers through transmission and distribution lines, the use of various machinery and equipment often causes distortion of the mains voltage waveform. This distortion will generate harmonics and increase the temperature of power system transformers. Generally, a distortion rate of 5% is required, and the design distortion rate of UPS uninterruptible power supply is generally 3%.
  6. Monitoring power supply
With the intelligent communication interface and monitoring software of UPS uninterruptible power supply, it can record the frequency and duration of power outages to achieve power supply monitoring, and can arrange the timing of UPS uninterruptible power supply on/off to save energy.
  7. Suppress common mode noise
Common mode noise is generated between the live/neutral wire and the ground wire.
  8. Surge protection
Generally, UPS uninterruptible power supplies are equipped with surge absorbers or tip discharge designs to absorb surges and protect user equipment.
  9. Instantaneous response protection
When the mains power is supplied, it may sometimes cause voltage to bulge, sink, or drop instantly. Using an online UPS uninterruptible power supply can provide stable voltage, reducing voltage fluctuations to less than 2V, which can extend equipment life and protect equipment.
